Prevention of Problems and Establishment of Positive Relationship Essay As a teacher, I believe that communication is one of the most important tools in teaching. Communication happened during classroom discussions and whenever the teacher and the students discuss issues in the class (Laslett and Smith 1984). Just like in the family, an open communication aids the students and the teacher in understanding, respecting and listening to what each other have to say. Everything especially the classroom procedure should be discussed appropriately in order to avoid misunderstanding and conflicts. If the students are fully aware about the procedures, then they will be able to avoid committing bad behavior or disobedience. Through open communication, students and teachers can establish a healthy relationship. In addition, teachers should not be too strict to foster a friendly environment conducive for teaching and learning. Criticisms should be done in a constructive way so that students will not get embarrassed but will be motivated to do better. I also believe that praises and positive suggestions are recommended to let the students know that their works are valued. Dealing with different types of students is one of the challenging aspects of being a teacher. In the same manner, this is also a way to learn and to develop the skills as a teacher by merely addressing the different needs of the students and coming up with a best strategy that will be effective for the entire class. Since not all the students are of the same level in terms of academic abilities, a flexible strategy is needed to address all the needs of the students without taking for granted their differences. The following are the different types of students that a teacher can encounter as well as my ways on how to deal with them. As a teacher, it is difficult to deal with students who hardly understand everything that a teacher is saying. Examples of these students are exchanged students from China, Spain, Japan and other countries who have different language. As a general rule, it is very important that the students understand the teacher very well in order to make learning more efficient (Pagewise 2002). Â  To provide a more effective learning, I primarily suggest that these students should undergo an English language and communication class so that the will learn more about the language or even at least know the meaning of the basic words. I would also recommend them to interact more often with their classmates and to participate regularly in the discussions so that they can exercise their skills in communicating in English. As a teacher, I may have the option to appoint them as group leaders so that they will be able to talk in class and get comfortable with the language.

I have chosen to use Maslow’s Theory of Hierarchy of Need to analysis Jordan’s personality. I will do my analysis by focusing on Jordan’s healthy personality, which is marked by his continued personal growth. Michael Jordan’s parents are James and Deloris Jordan. James began work as a forklift operator for General Electric, rose to dispatcher and retired as a supervisor. Deloris took a job after her children were in school at a drive-through window for United Carolina Bank. She worked her way up to head teller and retired as chief of Customer Service. Jordan has two brothers and two sisters; James Ronald, Larry, Deloris and Roslyn. He married Juanita Vanoy. Juanita, who was a loan officer at Chicago Bank before marring Jordan, Michael and Juanita, have two sons; Jeffrey Michael and Marcus James. Jordan’s friends admired him and value his friendship because he is a considerate and noble man. The Jordan’s are "pretty laid-back people". (Naughton, 1997, Pg. 19) Fred Whitfield, a friend of Jordan states, "he was just a real clean-cut guy with his head on straight." (Naughton, 1992, Pg. 18) "He hates to be embarrassed, he can’t take that. He can dish it out all the time, though. "If you make a mistake, he’ll let you know about it," states Buzz Peterson, a college roommate. The contemporary American medical industry

The contemporary American medical industry feels the lack of those, who directly take care of the patients and satisfy most of the patients’ needs. The thing is that there are not enough nurses in the American hospitals and clinics due to the small salaries and the lack of perspectives for the career development the registered nurses have. Fortunately, in the last decade numerous shows appeared which create a positive image of nursing and encourage young people to choose it as their career. The ER was one of the first TV series which took this mission. There were several remarkable actors who played nurses in this show, but the most remembering is Julianne Margulies' character, Carol Hathaway, the head nurse in the Emergency Room. There also were several nurses on the second roles. Carol, the head nurse, was often shown at leading roles in the ER series. She was always on duty to save the patients and to assist the doctors. The ER displays Carol and other nurses working directly with the patients, fulfilling their professional chores. In this show nurses are shown providing nursing care to the patients, but it is also noted that sometimes these medical practitioners have to make the decisions and fulfil functions that are out of their professional competence. In scenes with physicians, where other nurses take part, those are the doctors who do most of the talking, but when Carol Hathaway is aired it is her who talks the most. She always has her own opinion about the issues discussed, and she is ready to stand for her viewpoint. In the ER lots of episodes with doctors and nurses are aired, and the who is deciding what help the patient actually needs depends on the personality of the doctor and of the nurse. Of course, usually it is the doctor who guides the process, but sometimes the nurse has to take this role. Let's, for example recall Dr. Carter’s first day in the ER as a doctor. He was really scared when he got his first patient, so Carol had to fulfil his chores. In the ER it was shown that both man and women are good in the nursing career. There were more female nurses of course, but the male ones also were present. The age of nurses shown in the show varies from twenty to sixty something; there both are the nursing certificate program recent graduates and the aged and experienced specialists. Most of the nurses in the ER are single. Carol Hathaway is portrayed as one of the strongest and most intelligent women in the whole series. She’s strong, ambitious and intelligent, capable and eager of learning something new. Carol’s character is even stronger than most of the doctors who work with her have; but she’s an exception, as most nurses are shown as less ambitious and, more light-headed. Most of them have time for activities besides their job, so they seem little touched by the problems that happen in the hospital. Thus the personality traits depicted in Julianna Margulies’ character, Carol are shown as abnormal for the person of her occupation. Carol Hathaway’s values change as she’s developing personally and professionally through the series. At the beginning serving people, saving them is the most significant for her, but with the time passing we notice that Carol becomes more and more ambitious, she longs for recognition and scholarship. In the same time the other nurses long for various things – most of them still feel that their work is of greatest importance and try to fulfill their chores as drudgingly as possible, but there are also some nurses who just want to sit and do nothing. Most nurses are shown as less intelligent and ambitious than the doctors are. In the ER the nurses aren’t portrayed in sexually demeaning terms, it's rather they are evaluated on the basis of their professionalism and excellence. Of course, most of the nurses depicted are attractive, and several romantic lines appear which involve nurses. It’s interesting that in the ER nursing is not portrayed as a fulfilling career. The nurses are complaining that the doctors underevaluate them, and in the middle of the series Carol decides to continue her education for to get the doctor’s diploma. Despite of that, the job of a nurse is shown as quite an interesting and exciting one, but in the same time very tiring and demanding. In the ER the profession of a nurse is shown as a deficit and exciting one, but it is also said that the doctors are superior to the nurses, and that the nurses have few opportunities for the career development. I Have Never Experienced Discrimination - 808 Words

I have never experienced discrimination on a really serious level before. I always try to hang out with good, positive people, that way I do not end up in situations where people are being hateful. In the eighth grade I experienced discrimination for the first time when my friends Alivia, Valerie, and I wanted to join the basketball team. There were only boys on the team so when they saw that we wanted to join them they were not too thrilled. The guys on the team made us feel insecure about playing just because of our gender. It was around two o’clock in the afternoon, and seventh period was beginning. Alivia, Valerie, and I joined the basketball elective; however, little did we know, we were the only girls in the class. They completely ignored us and started the game. When Valerie went on t he court to protest, Noah yelled, â€Å"Get off the court! Interference! You’re in the way! Gosh girls are so dumb.† Our teacher did nothing to help us. He just refereed the game. â€Å"Hey, coach. They didn’t put us on teams,† I said trying to get him to acknowledge that there is a problem. â€Å"Sorry they’re already playing. Yeah! Nice shot Ryan!† He responded, barely paying attention. â€Å"But that isn’t fair we should get to play too.† He looked at me blankly for a few seconds, then turned away and spoke, â€Å"You can go to the small court and play with the sixth graders. Way to rebound James! Good Job!† This was my breaking point. I ran onto the court and stole the ball. â€Å"Hey! What’re you doing?† Noah said. â€Å"We want to play and you guys didn’t put us on your teams,† I said angrily. â€Å"Well that wouldn’t have been fair, you’re girls. You’re not as good as we are.† All I could think was, are they really that ignorant? I already knew the answer. My discriminatory incident relates to how Aunt Alexandra acts about Scout being un- lady-like in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird. Scout has been raised with two male figures in the house, so not being interested in â€Å"lady-likeness† is completely rational.
